Sound Design: Multi-Channel Sound Piece I

My initial idea for the sound piece is to create a sound piece that encompasses a transition and then once it’s near completion, export that soundtrack and adjust the tracks to fit into a multi-channel sound piece.

I’ve been experimenting with music and sound effects a lot as they are two things that I require for my major, game design, and as such I would like to focus on these elements.

Watching the examples in class, one in particular stood out to me as it reminded me of a few music pieces I’ve always wanted to replicate but never attempted. The example was “Murder of Crows” by Janet Cardiff. This piece reminded me of a song “Not For Want Of Trying” by Maybeshewill. The key element I like from this piece and Murder of Crows, is the use of dialog in a strange and dissonant fashion which elicits curiosity from the audience in an attempt to enter the space the sounds and the dialog is attempting to create. Taking this a step further, I want to edit the sounds to create a limited frequency, radio broadcast effect on the dialog further adding to the mystery and the feeling of tuning into something by accident and not understanding the premise for the dialog. An example I have for this effect is the intro of another music piece “I’ll Cut You Down” by Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats.

Going back to the key element of the sound piece, the transition, I’m not sure what kind of transition I want to create at this time but I’m hoping to discover this through experimentation of sounds and the script of dialog I choose. The above example “Not For Want Of Trying” has strong transitions which merge together towards the end of the piece and will probably become one of my key references.
