This was the first new game I had played since starting this project. While researching rouge-likes, I found a talk explaining the development process from the rouge-like celebration 2018. The speaker, Josh Ge, talked about his own project which sounded a lot like the kind of game I was hoping to create with this capstone. His game, Cogmind, turned out very different from my own game but I still enjoyed playing it and took some inspiration from his balancing systems. He gave the players a lot of control over what parts to equip and carry, with the UI showing every possible stat for each. This is great for advanced players who want to min/max their builds but can scare of new players. Thankfully, he classifies each of the parts into a tier system so casual players can simply compare one stat to decided if the new part is better or worse than the one they have. I would like to incorporate this into my game.
